A first-generation student and Vietnam native who came to America as a teenager, Nguyen began to build a broad resume during his undergraduate career at WSU Pullman. He received several scholarships. He is the university’s first student to have studied abroad on all seven continents. He has published books and served internships at BP, NASA, the UD Department of State, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
After WSU, he earned a master’s degree in educational technology at Johns Hopkins University. He is an employee of BP, lives in Chicago, and started a nonprofit in his son’s name—the Bach’s Wish Fund—to support Vietnamese students with educational opportunities and resources. In 2022, he received The Diana Award, set up in the memory of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, which honors young people for efforts to make a positive change in the world.
The WSU Distinguished Scholarships Program works with students seeking prestigious awards such as the Schwarzman.
